What Is Baobab Fruit?

Baobab powder is made from the fruit of the baobab tree—a majestic, ancient species native to Africa, Madagascar, and Australia.

Often called the "Tree of Life," the baobab tree can live for thousands of years, and it plays a crucial role in local ecosystems.

Its fruit is unusual because it naturally dries inside the hard shell while still on the branch. Once harvested, the pulp is ground into powder, preserving its nutrients without the need for preservatives or heat processing.

The flavor is a little tangy and citrusy, like a blend of lemon and lime—perfect for tea! Baobab is packed with nutrients and has quickly become one of my favorite “secret weapons” for staying healthy.

Watch my video below to see just how simple it is!

Health Benefits of Baobab

Here’s why I love adding baobab to my tea and why it’s worth keeping in your pantry:

  • 10x the Vitamin C of oranges: A natural way to boost your immune system and fight fatigue.
  • More antioxidants than blueberries: Helps protect your cells from damage and reduces inflammation.
  • Twice the iron of spinach: When paired with the naturally occuring Vitamin C, your body absorbs it even better.
  • 6x more potassium than bananas: Perfect for replenishing electrolytes and staying hydrated.
  • Loaded with prebiotic fiber: Supports healthy digestion by feeding the good bacteria in your gut.
  • Natural Electrolyte Boost: Baobab contains essential minerals like potassium, magnesium, and calcium, making it an ideal addition to post-workout hydration drinks.
With all these nutrients, baobab is a great addition to your wellness routine—especially during cold and flu season!

Why You’ll Love This Baobab Iced Tea

This Baobab Oolong Tea is more than just a delicious drink—it’s a functional beverage loaded with benefits. Here’s why it’s perfect for your lifestyle:

  • Boosts Your Immune System: This iced tea helps you stay healthy during cold and flu season thanks to the combination of baobab and lemon.
  • Hydrates and Energizes: With natural caffeine from oolong tea and electrolytes from baobab, it’s a great way to start your morning or replenish after a workout.
  • Supports Blood Sugar Balance: This tea is a low-carb, sugar-free option that’s ideal for anyone following keto or Trim Healthy Mama plans.
  • Gentle on Digestion: Baobab’s fiber content promotes a healthy gut, and oolong tea helps support metabolism.

More Ways to Use Baobab Powder

If you want to enjoy the benefits of baobab, here are a few more ways to incorporate it into your meals and snacks:

  • Smoothies: Add 1-2 teaspoons of baobab to your morning smoothie for a citrusy burst.
  • Yogurt Bowls: Stir a spoonful into plain yogurt and top with fresh berries.
  • Homemade Popsicles: Mix baobab with coconut water and freeze in molds for a healthy treat.
  • Baking: Use baobab in muffins, pancakes, or energy balls for a hint of citrus and added fiber.

Whether you enjoy it hot or iced, you’ll love the combination of earthy oolong, bright citrus, and subtle sweetness.

Plus, with Vitamin C, antioxidants, fiber, and electrolytes, it’s the perfect drink to keep you healthy, hydrated, and energized.

  • Brew 2 oolong tea bags in 2 cups of hot water in a mason jar for at least 5 minutes. Longer steeping will create a stronger tea.
  • Stir in 2 teaspoons of baobab powder while the tea is hot to help it dissolve. If clumps form, use a milk frother to blend smoothly.
  • Add 4 doonks of stevia (or adjust to taste).
  • Drop in a few fresh lemon slices for added flavor.
  • Add ice and more water to fill the mason jar.

Notes

Optional Add-ins: Add a splash of apple cider vinegar or a few drops of apricot extract.
Serve Hot or Iced: Enjoy hot, or let the tea cool and pour over ice. Add water or more ice as needed.
Any type of tea can be used.
A "doonk" is 1/32 of a teaspoon.
If you want to be fancy, you can add a sprig of mint, as shown in the photos! (It's a nice touch!)
