Whether you're trying to save some money or just want to experiment with different ingredients, making the Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso at home is a fun and easy way to enjoy this popular beverage.

Why is the Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso so popular?

The Oat milk trend: In recent years, oat milk has become increasingly popular as a dairy-free and vegan-friendly alternative to traditional dairy milk.

Starbucks in particular has been quick to capitalize on this trend by offering oat milk as an option for their drinks, including the Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso.

The flavor: The Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso offers a unique and delicious flavor profile that appeals to many people.

The combination of the rich and bold espresso, the nutty and slightly sweet oat milk, and the rich and complex brown sugar syrup creates a flavor that is both comforting and sophisticated.

And now, with this step-by-step recipe, you can enjoy this coffee-shop inspired copycat recipe at home!

What do I need to make Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso at home?

To make this popular drink at home, you'll need just a handful of things:

Espresso

Strongly brewed coffee or a shot or two of espresso. If you don't have an espresso machine, you can use a French press or pour-over method to make strong coffee.

Brown Sugar

Regular or sugar-free brown sugar syrup, depending on your preference.

In this recipe, we are actually going to use a sugar-free brown sugar, but if you do not eat sugar-free, you can definitely use regular.

Some people may prefer to make a brown sugar simple syrup to keep on hand, but I've opted to simply add the sugar-free brown sugar directly to the drink.

Oat Milk

Oat milk is the key to the creamy, nutty flavor of this drink. You can use store-bought oat milk or make your own oat milk at home if you have a blender and some rolled oats.

In this recipe, we are actually going to use a sugar-free oat milk (which is delicious), but again, you can use any oat-milk, or even make your own!

Ice

Ice is used to chill the drink and create a frothy texture when shaken together.

For full step-by-step instructions, refer to the recipe card below.

What if I don't have an espresso machine?

If you do not own an espresso maker, you can still make this iced coffee drink at home by using strong brewed coffee.

One of my favorite methods of making coffee is pour-over. (This is what I use every single morning!)

Using a french press also makes good strong coffee.

Alternatively, you could even use cold brew coffee if you like. (Learn how to make cold brew coffee at home!)

Is there cinnamon in brown sugar shaken espresso?

In a traditional coffee shop, cinnamon is sometimes used as a dusting to the top of the drink.

When I first started testing this recipe, I added a dash of cinnamon directly to the recipe, but I found it was too strong.

That's when I remembered my favorite Nutpods Oatmilk flavor - Cinnamon Dolce!

It works absolutely PERFECT in this recipe! It's the perfect oatmilk coffee!

Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso calories

According to the Starbucks website, a grande brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso has 120 calories and about 12 grams of sugar.

This Starbucks copycat recipe has zero grams of sugar, and only about 80 calories!

Why do I need a cocktail shaker to make this drink?

The short answer is: you don't (see below). However, shaking espresso with ice in a cocktail shaker is a common technique used to cool down the espresso quickly and create a frothy texture for the drink.

The rapid shaking helps to chill the espresso and create small air bubbles, which results in a creamy, smooth texture.

How can I make a brown sugar oat milk shaken espresso drink if I don't have a cocktail shaker?

If you don't have a cocktail shaker, there are still several methods for making this starbucks inspired recipe.

Blender

You can use a blender to mix the ingredients together. Combine the espresso, oatmilk, and sweetener in a blender with ice and blend until smooth and frothy.

Mason jar

You can also use a mason jar with a tight-fitting lid to shake the ingredients together.

Simply add the espresso, oatmilk, and sweetener to the mason jar with ice, close the lid tightly, and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds until well combined and frothy.
