Ice cream and frozen yogurt are equally delicious in the hot summer months, but my mind has already begun to turn to fall . . . hence this Frozen Vanilla Yogurt with Cinnamon. The warm flavor of cinnamon brings to mind things like apple pie and pumpkin spice!
Frozen Yogurt Parlors
Frozen yogurt parlors are popping up all over the United States. You know, the kinds with a seemingly endless variety of topping and sauces . . . where you pay by the cup or by the ounce?
We only have one option near us, and it is rather expensive, so we do not go often (and it can be hard to find on-plan options). But you can easily recreate frozen yogurt at home and add your own toppings!
However, I must give a bit of a disclaimer here - this particular frozen yogurt freezes very hard. My theory is that this has something to do with the low fat content. I believe the more fat in the ice cream/frozen yogurt, the creamier it will be.
Since this Vanilla Frozen Yogurt is made with 0% Fat Free Greek Yogurt, there is no fat to help keep it creamy.
But this doesn’t have to be a problem - I just leave the frozen yogurt on the counter and let it thaw for 20-30 minutes before I want to eat it.
I know, this is not as convenient - but really - this is a FUEL PULL "ice cream", so I’m perfectly ok with waiting a bit!
You could even use my Copycat Vanilla Triple Zero Yogurt as the base if you wish - just decrease the sweetener a bit!
Perfect Trim Healthy Mama E Dessert Topping
The main inspiration behind this frozen yogurt recipe is to have an “ice cream” to put on top of the Cherry Crisp Recipe that I am posting next week.
Warm Cherry Crisp, right out of the oven, topped with this sweet and tangy cinnamon vanilla frozen yogurt. It is perfect! (Sorry, I shouldn’t tease - but now you have something to look forward to!)
I do have one other frozen yogurt recipe, so you may want to check out my Oatmeal Cookie Frozen Yogurt, which is a Trim Healthy Mama E Fuel.
This vanilla frozen yogurt is a Fuel Pull for Trim Healthy Mamas. (This simply means that it is low in both carbs and fat.) For this reason, you can use this frozen yogurt to top any dessert - even E desserts!
(Don’t have any E dessert recipes? Check out my Peach Crisp, or my Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls!)
This is a great dessert to enjoy in the evening, as well. When supper is over, and it’s not quite time for bed, and you are hungry for a little something sweet? This is perfect - it is full of protein, but not many calories and low in fat.
This recipe makes 10 ½ Cup Servings. Each ½ cup serving has 56 calories, 7 grams of protein, 0 grams of fat, and 3 net carbs.
I originally added a bit of vegetable glycerine to try to keep the frozen yogurt soft, but I could not tell that it made a difference, so I have omitted it in the final recipe.
This frozen yogurt is tangy, like yogurt. But it is also sweet. I think it tastes a bit like a cinnamon roll. My husband loved it because he thought it tasted like apple pie.
If you are looking for more traditional ice cream recipes, be sure to check out my Chocolate Ice Cream and Vanilla Ice Cream recipes! (Of course, my other ice cream recipes do include a “secret ingredient” to make them creamy! But you can’t taste it, I promise!)
I have an ice cream maker similar to this Cuisinart 1.5 Quart Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream Maker. I actually have two of them, and I have never had a problem with them - they work great!

Is it possible to add 1 tsp of glycerin like Briana does to keep from getting so hard.
Sarah Hardy
As mentioned in the post above, I did try that, but it didn't seem to make any difference. Another reader suggest adding gluccie, and I think I will try that next time! 🙂

Hey Sarah, first of all, I just want to tell you that I absolutely love your recipes! Whenever I am looking for new recipes your website is one of the first places I look! I like making low fat ice cream too and I have found that adding a teaspoon of gluccomannan to the mixture when you blend it all together helps to make non-fat ice cream nice and creamy.
Sarah Hardy
Thank you for that tip, Miry! I will definitely give it a try!!

Sandy Johnson, All Day I Dream About Food always uses vodka in her ice cream to keep it from getting hard. I don’t drink, therefore I have not tried it. You can look through her recipes to see how much if you are interested.

Interesting about adding the vodka. I will try that and the glucci suggestion too. Thanks!

Thanks for this recipe I just discovered through Oh Sweet Mercy's "Best THM Vanilla Ice Cream Recipes" roundup. I will try it soon. Do you have any recommendations for substituting in kefir? Or have you heard of a THM friendly recipe for a vanilla kefir ice cream? The fruity ones I've tried are very good, but I'm hoping for a vanilla.... Thanks for sharing your many delicious recipes for all types of food!
